Say hello to Nell, the adorable little 5-month old Yorkshire Terrier from Kingston, PA whom I had the pleasure of painting recently. Isn't she the cutest? Her shy little look as she sits there on the blue rug is so adorable! Nell kept me company for a few weeks (in a virtual sense, not literally!) and I felt like I got to know her from her photos. I decided to call her Mom and get the scoop about Nell.
I said, "Nell looks so sweet!" Well apparently, Nell is a mischievous terror! :) She is a very active and persistent puppy. She lives with her two brothers, Will and Bob, who are both 12 years old. All she wants to do is play with them, but usually they can't be bothered. There are other pets around, but Nell only wants Will and Bob. I had the pleasure of painting Will and Bob's portraits a few years ago. They are wonderful standard poodles...so friendly and smart! I can see how Nell would want to cuddle up with them.
Despite Nell's precocious nature, I know she is well loved. Puppies can be a lot of work, especially if you haven't raised one in a while. I recently saw her Dad, a veterinarian, walking her in my old neighborhood. It was a cold day, and Dad was bundled up. At the end of a long leash was this itty bit of a puppy. "New dog?" I inquired. "Yup" he said, with a roll of the eyes and a smile. I chuckled because I could see that little glimmer of happiness in his expression. Our pets can sometimes be a pain in the a**, but still we love them so much, despite those obligatory early morning walks. After all, how can we resist their cuteness?
I'm glad I got to spend some time "hanging out" with Nell. While I'm painting, it's like have a new little friend for a while. Well, Nell...now that you've been packed and shipped up north, I just want to say, Thanks for the memories! Hope you get those big furry guys to play with you! :)
