“Works on Paper” Studio Art Classes at the Circle Centre for the Arts
Join me for weekly studio arts classes at the Circle Centre for the Arts, home of the Wyoming Valley Art League in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Our ongoing Wednesday morning class explores various ways of creating works on paper (see monthly topics below). Class is open to all levels - including beginners (yes, you can do it!). Class meets on Wednesdays from 10:30am - 12:30pm
Pricing: Cost per month (3 classes) is $80 for WVAL members, $95 for non-members. Some classes will require special supplies to be purchased by the student…we’ll let you know in advance. Please email Nina with any questions.
Location: 130 Rear S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Parking: available at the rear of Bell Furniture’s parking lot on S. Main Street. Enter through the gate at the rear wall of the parking lot to access our circular brick building!

“Printmaking with Organic Items” - samples of artwork techniques we’ll try in class.
“Printmaking With Organic Items”: October 7, 14, 28 from 10:30am - 12:30pm. For this series of three classes, we’ll explore printmaking techniques using organic items such as leaves, vegetables, fruit and flowers to make prints on paper. These papers can be used to make collages; smaller-size prints can be used for notecards; and printing on larger-size paper can be used as gift-wrap. There are many creative possibilities! “3D Book Sculptures Using Collage” - sample projects
“3D Book Sculpture Using Collage”: November 4, 11, 18 from 10:30am - 12:30 pm. This three-class workshop involves using antique/vintage books to make three-dimensional collage works. This technique is often referred to as “Tunnel Book Art” or “Altered Book Art”…see photos above for some fabulous ideas. If you’ve seen this on the internet and want to try it, now’s your chance! We’ll complete one book sculpture - your project can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. For supplies, you will want to either up-cycle old books from home, or do some thrift shopping to find books that would be interesting to use. We’ll send you the supply list ahead of time. Exploring “Fraktur” Design (pen and ink with watercolor): December 2, 9, 16 from 10:30am - 12:30 pm. “Fraktur” is a style of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art traditionally used for decorative certificates. In these three classes, we’ll use watercolors and pen-and-ink to create artworks that incorporate the lovely themes of fraktur: hearts, flowers, vines, birds, and angels. Great idea: attaching your designs to notecards would make wonderful Holiday greeting cards! Suitable for all levels.
Art Appreciation Classes at the Friedman JCC
The Friedman JCC is a welcoming non-profit venue that is open to the public. Membership is not required to enroll in classes. “American Architecture, Folk Art and Decor” Lecture Series
Join us every other Monday night for a special slide show presentation and lively discussion on the visual arts. This Fall’s topics are inspired by America’s 250th “Semiquincentennial”. We will explore the uniquely American achievements in folk art, crafts, architecture, décor and illustration. No tests or textbooks, just a wonderful opportunity to meet interesting people and learn something new! (Click here to register)
Paint ‘n Sip Workshops at the Friedman JCC
“Paint ‘n Sip” Workshops are a great way to get creative and connect with fun people. At these one-day, two-hour long workshops participants will complete a finished project to take home. No experience is necessary: follow along step-by-step with me, or go in your own directiont…everyone can do it! All art supplies are included. Price: $45 per person ($40 for JCC members). Food & Beverages: We’ll have bottled water, paper cups, plates, and napkins, and a few simple snacks. Please feel free to bring juice, soda, wine (or any beverage) and extra snacks to share! Deadline to Register: Please sign up early to save your spot, and so we have enough time to get supplies for everyone.
Paint ‘n Sip workshop on October 14th: “The Coast of Bellangenay” by Paul Gauguin.
“The Coast of Bellangenay” by Paul Gauguin - Wednesday, October 14th, 6:00-8:00pm
Let’s imagine taking an early morning walk along the French coast as we paint our own unique versions of Paul Gauguin’s beautiful ocean landscape. We’ll be using acrylic paints on canvas to create this lovely scene that features a pink sky with a purple mountain, lavender and light-blue waves and dark, sandy rocks. The composition will be pre-drawn onto the canvas for you, so we can focus on mixing these fabulous colors. Beginners are welcome! Follow along with Nina - everyone can do it!

Paint ‘n Sip workshop on Sunday, November 15: “Landscape at Twilight” by Vincent van Gogh.
“Landscape at Twilight” by Vincent van Gogh. Sunday, November 15th from 11:00 am -1:00pm
This little-known twilight landscape by Vincent van Gogh is full of rich fall colors and will be so much fun to make! We will start by using acrylic paints. Then if you like, further embellishments can be added to your work using markers or oil pastels. No experience necessary: the main elements of this painting will be pre-drawn onto the canvas for you, so just follow along with me!

“Evening Glow” painting in acrylics. Wednesday, December 9th from 6:00 - 8:00pm
Our holiday-season painting features a nighttime scene with sparkling lights glowing along a path on the water. We’ll learn some fun new techniques to create this magical painting. As always, these workshops are geared for beginners – bring a friend for a fun evening out!
